This week we are using Designer Series Paper (DSP) in our projects. I wanted to make my card focus mainly on the DSP. We all have that stash of paper that we love but don’t know how to get used up. Card like these will do the trick!

Let’s take a look at how I made this card!

Making this card was actually pretty easy. I cut a 4″ x 10 1/2″ strip of DSP and creased it at 5 1/4″. Getting that even on the 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base was fun. I never can get them perfectly lined up, and for this card it was pretty important. I used the remaining portion of the DSP to make the border on the inside of the card and the banner on the front.

For the banner, I added to the inside of the card, first I used some Basic Beige ribbon to cover the edge of the banner. It is wrapped around the DSP and glued down with Stampin’ Seal+. After adding the ribbon and banner, I used Stampin’ Seal+ to add the DSP to the card base.

I use Basic White on the sentiment banner, and even though it doesn’t show, I stamped in it Highland Heather, then embossed over it with clear embossing powder to make it stand out a little more.

For my touch of bling, I had to use the Brass Butterflies. They just felt like they belonged there!

I wanted some kind of floral design element on the card front, but I didn’t want to take away from the DSP, so I used Vellum card stock to die cut out some leaves and stems. They add a soft touch to the card front without taking over. What I love about cards like this is that stamping isn’t even required. If you have good enough handwriting, you could just write out your sentiment.

Looking inside the card

Because almost the entire card is DSP, decorating the inside was a breeze. I used a small amount of Basic White card stock and stamped the flower image using Highland Heather and Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers™. That technique never gets old for me. It’s a simple but effective wow factor.

Pass it on

Making a pack of these cards would take no time at all and would make a great gift for any teacher for the upcoming school year. Having cards on hand for thanking parents for participation would be a blessing. I know I loved to send them home to the weekly snack parent for taking time to help our our classroom. It’s the little thank you’s that make all the difference!
