Hey Crafty Friends, and welcome to my Let’s Celebrate Card tutorial. Today, I am sharing a card I made for a blog hop, but I wasn’t fast enough to get it in by the deadline! Since it was already made, I wanted to let y’all see it before it send it out to the next person who orders a stamp set from my eBay.
For about 3 years now, I have been a part of a blog hop that my dearest friend Linda Moore started. The goal is to give our customers a chance to see cards made with the products from current catalogs and show techniques and card folds that they might not have seen yet. It’s been a blast to be a part of and I highly recommend going through my posts and finding all the past issues. So many fun and creative takes from some seriously talented crafters!
The last hop challenge was to create a card using a coloring tool in the current catalogs/online exclusives offerings. I chose to use my blending brushes. I am HORRIBLE at water-coloring, so I spared you having to be polite and say how nice it looks, when we all know it’s gonna look like a 3 year old colored it! haha
Instead, I wanted to show that the brushes can be used on a stencil to add a background to any die or image. Sometimes, its fun to add depth to a card using shading and blending some colors together.
For the card base, I used the textured stamp to add some flavor to the edges of the card. Then, for the card front, I took the card stock I dies cut the label from and used the Moody Mauve ink pad and blending brushes to color in the shape of the label. Next, I put the label back in the stencil and colored the die cut hole and shapes onto the previously colored label image. (I’ll add a video of what I mean.)
After I got the stenciled label all colored in, I stamped the flower images first in Blackberry Bliss, then in Moody Mauve. I die cut the smaller label and added the sentiment, then inked the edges of the label on the Blackberry Bliss to help it stand out from the card front. I added dimensionals and then added the card front to the card.
Sometimes, the best part of a card is trying something new. I hadn’t used a die as a stencil in the way I did for this card, so I really love how much I learned on what to do and NOT to do. It’s great to find new ways to use stuff you already have and make the value of a product increase! Now, I can tell Jay I am getting 2 products for the price of one! :D
