Masking technique – Stamping With Friends Blog Hop

Theme – Masking

Hello Crafty Friends! I am thrilled to be here for this hop! I love masking, but I’ll be honest, I don’t do it as often as I would like. Now that we have the Masking Paper, it will make it a lot easier to do.

There are some really great stamp sets that work so good with the masking technique, and today I used Ranunculus Romance. I haven’t used this set yet and thought it would be perfect because of that script stamp. I love how the script stamp looks on it’s own, but I wanted to have it as a background for the flowers. Enter my masking paper!

First I used my Stampin’ Write markers to color the flower stamp and stamped the image on the Basic White card stock.

Next, I die cut the flower image from the Ranunculus die set out of the masking paper.

I set the die cut masking paper over the flower image on my card stock and inked up the script stamp with my Sahara Sand Stampin’ Pad.

I stamped the image three times, covering the entire flower and removed the masking paper. Remember, the masking paper is thin, but if you don’t give a little extra push on your stamp, you might get shadows around the edges of your masked image, as the paper does raise the stamp up a little bit. Check the edges of your stamp before pressing, though. You don’t want a halo around your image.

Next, I cut a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Calypso Coral card stock and stamped the Drybrush background image in Sahara Sand. Then, I added it to the card base with Stampin’ Seal.

Now, I took some white twine and used my Garden Green marker to color it, then wrapped it around the Basic White image.

For bling, I added some Brass Butterflies. Then, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals™ to stick the basic White Card stock on the Calypso Coral card stock.

I got the sentiment I liked from the set and stamped that on the inside of my card, and just like that, I had a masterpiece. haha

I made this card in about 20 minutes, thanks to the wonderful conversation I was having with my dearest friend, Linda Moore. We have a weekly phone call date where we discuss our business and our lives. It’s a time I look forward to from the second we get off the phone until the next Wednesday. Never underestimate the value of a true friend. They can really bring so much to your life at a time when you need it most.

PS: If you don’t have a friend you can just chat with, send me a message. I would love to be a shoulder to lean on.

Until next time,

Stay crafty, Friends!

Thank you!! This set really is great. I overlooked it for a bit, and I’m so glad I finally really took a look at it. I needed a replacement for my go to stamps that retired and this one just finally jumped out at me.

I love your card and especially your generous invitation to chat with someone. I’ve found some of the best buddies through this craft. I am grateful for that generosity of spirit.

Thank you!! And I agree, this craft has brought me some of the greatest friends I could have ever asked for! I know so many people are feeling isolated right now, even with life trying to get back to normal. I just want to offer an ear to listen and a little hope.

Thank you! And thank you for your kind words! I have been in a place where I needed just to talk, not about anything in particular, but to just stop thinking about life’s stressors. I want people to know that there are others out here who care.

Thank you Candi! You’re too kind! I just want to be the Hands and Feet, or ears in this case! 😀 It’s really the least I can do when so many are going through so much right now.
